Ameyoko is the shopping street between Ueno Station and Okachimachi Station of JR, formally called Ameya Yokocho. It started as one of the black markets after World War II, selling a variety of items from brand name goods to groceries at reasonable prices. This area is especially busy towards the end of the year. The area is mostly flat and accessibility from the nearby stations is good. However, use the restrooms with wheelchair access in large stores in this neighborhood as most of the stores are small family run shops. Wheelchair users should be cautious since aisles are narrow in most of the stores.
